There are over 200 girls participating in our recreational season. Girls play in an age-appropriate league, are coached by trained and capable parents, and are given every opportunity to learn and grow. Emphasis on sportsmanship, athletic skills, teamwork, enthusiasm, physical fitness, and fun makes softball a wonderful experience for girls of all ages. Each division provides healthy competition and appropriate skill levels for every girl. GGSL encourages our young women to develop their skills athletically, socially and emotionally.
DIVISIONS, AGE ELIGIBILITY: GGSL is comprised of 5 divisions, by school grade (K through 12th grade).
Rookie: For girls in Pre-K through First Grade (4, 5 and 6 year olds). Pre-K is allowed if you turn 4 by December 1st. We anticipate that this division will incorporate more instruction and skill development during pre-game warmup time. Played w/10″ softie ball.
The Rookie level will have a 1 hour and 15 minute program with 30 minutes of skill station work, where girls will learn the basics about throwing, catching, and hitting. Girls will then play a 45-minute game. The League will provide managers with a scripted program to follow. Training will also be available for managers and coaches.
Single A: For girls in Second & Third Grade (7 & 8 year olds), this division will incorporate more instruction and skill development during pre-game warmups, followed by a shorter game for the first couple of games. Played w/11″ softie ball.
The Single A level will have a 1 hour and 45 minute program with 30 minutes of skill station work and basic game instruction for the first half of the season. Girls will then play a one-hour 15 minute game with 30 minutes of instructional play prior to the game. Fundamentals in throwing, catching, and hitting will be reinforced, and fielding will be introduced. For the second half of the season, teams will have a 1 hour and 45 minute game with NO instructional play prior to the game. The League will provide managers with a scripted program to follow. Training will be available for managers and coaches.
Double AA: For girls in Fourth & Fifth Grade (9 & 10 year olds). Pitching distance is 35′ w/11″ ball.
Triple AAA: For girls in Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grade (less experienced 8th graders) (11 & 12 year olds). Pitching distance is 40′ w/12″ ball.
Majors: For girls in Eighth Grade (more experienced 8th graders) through girls in their senior year in High School (no older than 18 as of December 31) (senior division, 13 through 18 years old) . The pitching distance will be 43′
Note: Eighth graders will be able to choose to play in Triple A or Majors.

TEAM / PLAYER PLACEMENT POLICY
Rookie & A Divisions ONLY: Every effort is made to group girls by school location or as per a buddy request. Such requests are limited to 1 friend and must be made by both parties. Requests for a specific manager cannot be guaranteed.
All Other Divisions: To balance skill levels and give girls the opportunity to meet new teammates, teams are selected via a draft conducted in March. Requests for placement with a specific manager, or for carpooling/friends, etc., will not be accepted. Placement on a team at the draft is FINAL and no trades can be made and no refunds will be given based on draft results or team placement. Each girl is expected to complete the season with her team once teams are finalized the morning of draft day. Registrations received after the draft are placed on a waiting list for the next available player opening on existing teams in the order openings occur, with no choice in team placement, regardless of circumstances.
REQUESTS TO PLAY UP A DIVISION: To ensure the safety and development of each individual, if a girl would like to play up a division, they are required to attend a placement evaluation in February/March. All requests to play up a division MUST be received by February 1. Experienced 8th graders choosing to play in the Major Division do not need to attend an evaluation.
